DPF cleaning in Erdington
Diesel particulate filters diagnosed and cleaned at our Kingsbury Road workshop, with the reason they blocked found first, so the light does not just come back.
Start with a diagnostic check
A diesel particulate filter traps the soot a diesel engine makes, then burns it off, which is called regeneration, when the exhaust runs hot enough on a longer drive. Short trips never get it that hot, so the soot builds up until the DPF light comes on.
Often the filter is not the real problem. A faulty pressure sensor, a sticking EGR valve, injectors putting in too much fuel or a glow plug fault can all stop it regenerating or fill it faster. Cleaning the DPF without finding that only buys time, so we diagnose first.
Depending on how blocked it is, the fix might be a forced regeneration using diagnostic equipment, a clean, or in the worst cases a new filter. We tell you which, and what it costs, before we start.
Diesels are a big part of our work, Ford's included, so DPF problems are routine here. Removing a DPF is illegal and an MOT fail, and we do not do it.

Common questions
Can I clear a DPF light myself?
Sometimes. If your handbook allows it, a steady run at higher speed for 20 minutes or so can let the filter regenerate. If the light stays on, or the car goes into limp mode, book it in.
Why does my DPF keep blocking?
Usually because of how the car is used, mostly short trips, or because something is stopping it regenerating. We look for the cause rather than just cleaning the filter.
Is removing the DPF legal?
No. It is illegal to use a car without the DPF it was built with, and the MOT checks for it. We repair and clean DPFs; we do not remove them.
